Export opportunities through the expanded Maputo container terminal

Export opportunities through the expanded Maputo container terminal

Last week DP World Maputo met with FSA to discuss the export opportunities through the expanded Maputo container terminal. DP World Maputo operates the container terminal of Maputo, over the past 18 months we have embarked on an intensive investment programme to completely redevelop our terminal infrastructures. Last month we completed phase 1 of our civil works which has resulted in terminal capacity increasing from 150k TEU to 350k TEU per annum, this includes a new rail siding (4 x 375m), 400 Reefer plugs and a shift to new Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) operation from old Reach Stacker operation. Current investment made is around $80mill. Upgrades will continue with a new 800m quay and 6 STS cranes over next 3-4 years, finally bringing our terminal up to a capacity of 1 million per year.

Already with the new capacity added to DP World Maputo, there is now a viable and sustainable alternate import/export option to that of TPT ports, and being the closest port to Gauteng region, there are an immense number opportunities for the Maputo-JHB corridor for your members. MICD is a packing facility which is located within the Maputo port (bonded) which has the capacity and capability to pack your members cargo, providing a better supply chain cost and efficiency.

Download the DP World Maputo Capability Presentation which outlines the above points in more detail.
