Specialist: Fleet Repair & Maintenance


Status: Permanent
Location: Technical Services (Swartfontein)
Grade: D2
Reporting line: Senior Manager: Technical Services and Support

Role Mandate
To develop and maintain an appropriate preventative maintenance program for the entire SAFCOL fleet.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, review and implement an appropriate preventative procedures and standards for SAFCOL
  • Develop and establish structures, operational method, control protocols and tools
  • Determine future systems and services requirements in line with company long term strategy
  • Develop and implement appropriate Service Level Agreements (incl. rates and performance targets)
  • Implement strategies and policies to continuously reduce costs and improve fleet efficiency
  • Establish and manage Tweefontein Workshop as a centre of excellence for mechanised harvesting operations
  • Set up and implement cost and efficiency comparisons
  • Ensure general mechanical support and problem solving to line management
  • Assist and advise Business Unit Managers with the management of their workshops
  • Validate quotes and invoices in terms of technical content and value for money
  • Evaluate new products and methods
  • Identify and evaluate new alternatives and opportunities
  • Ensure general training incl. 2x field days/workshops pa and determine the type and required contractor capacities
  • Align long-term R&M capacities in terms of strategic intent and tactical planning
  • Develop, implement a standardised SLA; monitor and manage performance against set SLA's
  • Determine annual vehicle fleet requirements
  • Manage fleet utilisation and age
  • Determine the appropriate fleet replacement specifications
  • Recommend appropriate fleet allocation to business units
  • Manage and report on the Fleet Management System (FMS) and Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) and service agreement
  • Oversee annual auction of replaced fleet and other written off assets


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • B-Tech/ B.Sc. Degree (NQF Level 7) in mechanical engineering
  • 5-7 years' experience in fleet repair & maintenance environment
  • Previous experience at a managerial level will be added advantage
  • Valid driver's licence
