Transport Officer: Rail - (HRL15 / S8)

To plan, co-ordinate and execute rail orders and loading schedules in order to achieve constant supply of timber/raw materials to the relevant markets.



  • Liaise with Transnet Freight Rail planners, client co-ordinators and customer managers regarding rail orders and flows
  • Monitor Contractors loading performance to avoid demurrage penalties from Transnet Freight Rail
  • Ensure there is sufficient timber stocks for ordered consignments to avoid non utilisation penalties from Transnet Freight Rail
  • Confirm wagon orders from forestry management and send to Transnet Freight Rail for capturing and activation on system
  • Monitor turnaround time of rail wagons per loader and sliding for the elimination of demurrage charges
  • Liaise with loading contractors to ensure adherence of loading profiles as prescribed by Transnet Freight Rail
  • Educate contractors to prevent losses on under loads
  • Ensure loaders forward release information timeously after loading
  • Compile daily report of rail wagon orders
  • Compile and update monthly performance reports
  • Conduct monthly Safety and environmental audits on all rail loading sidings
  • Compile Rail Safety Regulator quarterly safety reports, safety assessments and incident reports
  • Control of monthly expenditure within budget

  • Grade 12/Matric and studying towards a Transport related qualification
  • National Diploma in Transport or Forestry will be advantageous
  • Up to 5 years relevant experience
  • Valid Code EB driver's license
  • Computer literacy
  • Transnet Rail experience
