August : Invitation to an ICFR KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Regional Field Day

The  next ICFR Field Day is our KZN Midlands event which will be held on Wednesday 3 October at the Noodsberg Country Club, near Dalton.

Attached please find the draft programme for this event.

  • The programme includespresentations from our Re-establishment research programme including research into comparing coppice vs. replanted material from six trials, and results from a study looking at the interaction of hydrogels, water and fertiliser compared to dry plantingofeucalypts.
  • There will also be a talk on the wood and fibre production potential for alternative Eucalyptus and Corymbia species for dry sites from site species research conducted in the KwaZulu-Natal warm temperate areas.
  • Presentations on pests include atalk by the ICFR on results from a trial assessing chemical and biological products to potentially control white grub, as well as a talk by TPCP onchallenges and opportunitiesof managing insect pests of Eucalyptus.
  • Other presentations include a talk on the management of Lilium formosanum in KZN and recent research results from FESA.
  • Thanks to the support of UCL, the field component will includea visit to their wattle bark processing plant in Dalton.

Please pass the invitation onto your colleagues who may be interested in attending, especially anyone in your companies in the area, who may not be on this mailing list.

Directions and GPS co-ordinates for the venue are included with the programme.
