Registration Deadline and Final Programme: 5th Forest Science Symposium 2012

Below please find the Final Programme for our upcoming 5th Forest Science Symposium.

As you know our theme for this year is "Risk to sustainable plantation forestry in southern Africa: The role of Research".

With 29 varied papers, four highly topical plenary addresses and a number of posters on display, we are very proud of, and excited for, what promises to be a great event.

Our plenary papers have been confirmed and will look at the following:

  • Plenary 1: Challenges to sustainable plantation forestry in South Africa
Ms Viv McMenamin - Director: Land & Forestry, South Africa Division, Mondi

  • Plenary 2: Global tree health:  What next?
Prof. Mike Wingfield - Director, Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI, University of Pretoria

  • Plenary 3: 65 years of forestry research at the ICFR - where to from here?
Prof. Colin Dyer - Director, Institute for Commercial Forestry Research

  • Plenary 4: Value addition from South African forest research - can it continue?
Dr Andrew Morris - General Manager Research: Sappi Shaw Research, Sappi Forests

Without a doubt this is becoming a key event on the Forest Sector calendar in South Africa, and the programme is an excellent reflection of the depth and breadth of research being conducted by people from a range of academic and research institutions, as well as forestry companies.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as well as a number of the forestry companies in South Africa, we are able to host a high value event, which we hope many of you will attend.

Please remember you need to register to attend and the closing date for registrations is Friday 6th July.

Attached with this e-mail is a registration form and we would like to encourage you to book your place at the Symposium as soon as possible.

The event is of course open to everyone - so please assist us in passing this information onto anyone who you feel may be interested in attending.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you at Hilton College on 24 & 25 July for what promises to be a great event!
