CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The School of Natural Resource Management at the George Campus (Saasveld) of the NMMU
(http://george.nmmu.ac.za) has a long and outstanding history of excellence and leadership in teaching and
research in the field of forestry.  We would like to strengthen our focus on applied forest management, and to
achieve this, it is necessary to create capacity in the field of Silviculture.  A vacancy exists for a lecturer/senior
lecturer
to assist the School in attaining its goals.  The recipient of this post will be expected to lecture
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Silviculture, supervise research students, and conduct appropriate
research in this discipline.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To facilitate student learning at under-graduate and post-graduate levels in the School.

  • To conduct, publish and promote research in Silviculture.

  • To undertake curriculum development for new courses and curricula.

  • To direct and ensure academic engagement with relevant external stakeholders.

 

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

  • In-depth knowledge of and interest in Silviculture, within the South African context.

  • Applied approach to lecturing.

  • Applied research and publication.

  • Capacity to network with the forestry and related sectors.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Proven expertise and at least 5 years work experience in Silviculture in the South African context.

  • Candidates must possess a relevant Masters (for appointment at lecturer level), or a Doctoral degree (for appointment at senior-lecturer level).

  • Experience in facilitating learning at undergraduate and post-graduate levels will be a strong recommendation.
