The Australian Forestry and Forest Products Sector Conference:

Melbourne Australia:  August 7 & 8, 2014

All speakers have now been confirmed.  This conference will be very timely, given the "revitalisation plans" for the industry discussed at the Australian Forest, Wood, Paper and Timber Products Industry Gala Dinner, Canberra on 4 March (which was attended by the Australian Prime Minister and 600 guests).   Some of our International  speakers are  Rodrigo Monreal,  Solidwood Products chief of Chilean giant company Arauco, Matthew Wood the CEO of European company Stora Enso's Australian subsidiary, Canadian Russ Taylor President of WOODMarkets and American Peter Barynin, Lead Economist- North American Timber for Boston USA- based RISI;  who will share their respective views on the future of log & lumber demand and pricing in the Pacific Rim, global pulp and wood pellet specialist Oliver Lansdell from Hawkins Wright in London, and Gavin Hao, Shanghai- based RISI specialist on the North Asian pulp and woodchip import industry. In addition several experienced Australian speakers are confirmed including Peter Zed on the Australian sawmilling sector, Simon Dories the CEO of Engineered Wood Products Association of Australia, Ross Hampton CEO of Forest and Wood Products Australia Limited on tree carbon issues, Steve Whitley CEO of Forestry Tasmania on lessons to be learnt from Tasmania's recent experiences in the industry, and a number of others.  A panel of overseas plantation investors will discuss: Why Australia?  There are a few "new project" panel slots still open.

The New Zealand Forestry and Forest Products Sector Conference:

Rotorua New Zealand August 11 & 12, 2014

With only one or two speakers to confirm, we have a full program.  Again a timely industry meeting, with New Zealand facing serious questions about the future of its wood processing industry in the face of severe Chinese log competition; and a General Election in September 2014.

Some of our international speakers include Rodrigo Monreal, Solidwood Products chief of Chilean giant company Arauco, Canadian Russ Taylor of WOODMarkets and American Peter Barynin the head economist (Timber) for Boston based RISI, who will share their respective views on the future of log & lumber demand and pricing in the Pacific Rim especially relevant for New Zealand as a major log & lumber exporting country, Brian Frank CEO of Canadian forest owner TimberWest will provide his experience operating in  a log export restricted country; global pulp and wood pellet specialist Oliver Lansdell from Hawkins Wright in London and Peter Zed on the vital Australian market for New Zealand Solidwood Products. In addition we have several experienced New Zealand speakers.    Brian Stanley Chairman of NZ WPA will set the scene for the meeting, and other local speakers include David Balfour CEO of the huge Kaingaroa forest management company KT, Indufor's Marcel Vroege on the panel industry, Tom Boon CEO Taranakipine on secondary wood processing, Geoff Manners on whether it is economic to plant trees in New Zealand any more, and a number of others.  Four panel sessions have been organised;

  • New Zealand Pulp and paper industry, four industry leaders will discuss issues;
  • Managers of overseas plantation/wood processing investors will speak on: Why New Zealand?;
  • A politician's panel will provide an opportunity for Party forestry spokespeople to provide their forestry polices just shy of the 2014 General Election, and
  • Three regional wood processing promotion organisations will talk on their respective initiatives.
