The Conference was established after George Kuratle recognised the opportunity and the potential for timber construction in South Africa. Bringing together professionals in the sector to gather and learn more about timber, the common goal of the Conference is to develop the South African timber market and spread the knowledge about the most sustainable building material.
The WOOD CONFERNCE Cape Town recognized itself as one of the most important conferences in sustainable construction. For years interested people from South Africa and Internationally attended this first-class neutral networking platform offering the possibility for professions in the built environment, students and the general society to expand their knowledge and get inspiration for wood and sustainable building solutions.
The aim of the conference is to support local architects in the promotion of wood in sustainable construction, the exchange of ideas, information, and inspiration on the topic of wood. Ten years on, the Conference continues to add value to the timber construction industry in South Africa.
As the conference continues to grow, there are loads of potential for the event to make an impact in the timber construction and sustainable building in South Africa.
One of the goals would be to increase awareness about a broad general understanding that timber is a valuable and sustainable building material. “A whole industry with all its players needs to understand the broader goal that we need to achieve is to create a sustainable market for timber construction.”
A big part of the Conference’s success over the past 10 years has been through the continued support from attendees and sponsors.
