Debegeni Falls
Sudwala, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Debegeni is a Northern Sotho word meaning “Place of the Pots”. The waterfall was a sacred place where rituals were performed during the reign of Captain Makgoba who resided in Magoebaskloof until ousted by white pioneers in 1895. According to G Thompson, The Debegeni should really read Dibodiba which means “the pools” in Sesotho.
Part of the overnight hiking trail passes the Waterfall, where you encounter an expansive range of birdlife and more than 40 species of indigenous trees in the region.
