Registered by Arxada, a global leader in wood protection technologies, the launch of Tanalith® E preservative in South Arica marked a significant step towards growing the environmentally compliant wood treatment market for both sawn timber and pole products. Today, it is the preservative of choice of architects and builders opting for treated timber that meets green building benchmarks.
Helping to keep wood in play for more eco-sensitive environments
In 2015, Tanalith® E treated eucalyptus poles were used for the pergolas, structural columns and roof beams of the Vodafone Site Solution Innovation Centre in Midrand, South Africa. Built as a sustainable living building to showcase innovative techniques and design, the Green Building Council South Africa awarded it the first 6 Star Green Star in the Southern Hemisphere and in South Africa.
The Chapman’s Peak boardwalk, which was constructed with Tanalith® E treated Pine poles and posts in 2013, is another notable project at a South African landmark. The durability of the boardwalk against exposure to the harsh coastal corrosive elements was a foremost consideration. “The boardwalk is enjoyed by visitors all year round and proudly showcases an exemplary of maintaining the beauty of wood in its natural form while aligning with the prestige of the Chapman’s Peak Drive development,” said Mark Jacobs, Operator at Entilini Operations.
Championing sustainability in construction
The Pole Yard is a leading Western Cape supplier and manufacturer of timber fencing, rustic garden furniture, jungle gyms, wooden decking and gardening products. According to Leeroy Deane, a director of The Pole Yard, Tanalith® E treated products embraces their eco-sensitive ethos. “Tanalised® E has steadily proven to be a reliable timber preservative for the treatment of Eucalyptus poles, Pine machined poles and pine sawn timber,” said Deane.
Long-term performance and durability
The performance of Tanalith® E wood preservative is underpinned by a unique combination of recycled Copper and Azole applied under a vacuum pressure process, and decades of Arxada’s broad global regulatory expertise, toxicology and analytical chemistry skills. Wood treated with Tanalith® E preservative, can be specified for all above ground, in ground and fresh water contact applications (H2 to H5), where there is a medium to high risk of fungal decay or insect attack.
