Post: Emkhondo MDF Project Contracts Signed

PG Bison is proud to announce that the final contract for its new SupaWood plant in eMkhondo was signed on the 22nd of November 2021 with the team from Siempelkamp. This marks a major milestone in the process of commissioning and building our new SupaWood plant. The new SupaWood plant will be the latest international technology available and will be commissioned in mid-2024. The new plant will produce an additional 780m³ per day, increasing our MDF manufacturing capacity from the current 420m³ per day to 1200m³ per day. This will ensure that we can support our customers growing demand.

Gerhard Victor, CEO of PG Bison, says ” This is a significant investment and is further testament to our ongoing support of the local board and furniture manufacturing industry. We are proud that this investment will help with the upliftment of the rural eMkhondo economy and the entire forestry value chain.  The investment will be significant in several ways, contributing to creation of direct and indirect jobs, as well as skills and enterprise development and further local partnerships,” says Victor.

The new SupaWood plant is part of the large capital expansion programme that PG Bison announced at the 2020 South Africa Investment Conference.

In addition, PG Bison has purchased a new melamine faced board (MFB) press and an additional hot coating line, which will bring its tally to seven MFB presses and two hot coating lines. The new lines will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2022 at its Boksburg production plant.

“The additional capacities being installed by PG Bison of both Particleboard and MDF, will significantly increase the supply into the market of both products,” says Victor. “We remain committed to supporting local industry to ensure localisation and job creation. We thank our shareholder, KAP Industrial Holdings, the government, and our customers for their ongoing support as we embark on these important projects.
