Fire Management Symposium
Main role players in this event include: NMU, DFFE, LEFPA, SAPPI, SANParks, Terra Envision (International group)
The Website for the event “fes2026” will be activated early in 2026. On this website interested parties can:
- Register for the event (selecting those parts that they want to attend)
- Book accommodation (Although they can also boo accommodation in a private capacity)
- Submit abstracts for talks.
- The official event will consist of two days of presentations/talks and one day set aside for an expo.
- The pre- and post-conference tours will be separate from the conference and the expectation is that the international guests will be eager to attend these events.
- SAPPI and LEFPA will participate in the conference programme as well as in the post conference tour.
- During the Conference LEFPA will facilitate a workshop addressing the function of Fire Protection Associations in South Africa and how the implementation of similar systems in other parts of the world can be of benefit. Please provide the appropriate title for the workshop.
- This workshop will be a parallel event that takes place during one of the sessions on the first day of the event – 4 Nov 2026 (±2-3 hours)
- This workshop will also serve as one of the annual national meetings/workshops of FPA’s in South Africa.
- The workshop will be structured in a way that national focus areas are addressed but will include inputs from several leading organisations/individuals who plays an important part on the stage of fire management in South Africa. (Consideration should be given to include the Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environmental affairs (DFFE) and Working on Fire (WoF) in the workshop)
- Will provide opportunity for participation from participants – especially those from foreign countries.
- It will be necessary to provide a brief outline and agenda of the workshop that can be published on the fEs2026 website.
- SAPPI will facilitate a 2nd workshop that will be a parallel event on the 3rd day of the conference – 6 Nov 2026 (2-3 Hours)
- During this workshop sound environmental management practices in commercial forestry in South Africa that contribute towards lowering fire risk on exotic Eucalyptus and Pinus plantations will be investigated. Please provide the appropriate title for the workshop.
- At the same time, the topics of sustainable forestry and natural ecosystems will be addressed (including FSC certification and other audits serving as controls and guidelines to a productive industry)
- The workshop will be structured in a way that national focus areas are addressed but will include inputs from several leading organisations/individuals who plays an important part on the stage of fire management in South Africa. (Consideration should be given to include other leading forestry companies like Mondi, PG Bison, TWK, SAFCOL, York timbers, MTO, conservation agencies, and other land users in the workshop)
- Will provide opportunity for participation from participants – especially those from foreign countries.
- It will be necessary to provide a brief outline and agenda of the workshop that can be published on the fEs2026 website.
