FlexAIR 2.0: Built For The Realities Of Modern Forestry Nursery Production

Background
Forestry nurseries are operating under increasing pressure. Substrate availability is changing. Labour remains constrained. Output targets continue to rise, while consistency at scale has never been more critical. The FlexAIR 2.0 has been developed with these realities firmly in mind. Building on the proven FlexAIR platform, the FlexAIR 2.0 represents a deliberate step forward in Ellepot production for commercial forestry nurseries. It has been engineered to deliver high-capacity, repeatable performance across peat-reduced and peat-free substrates, while maintaining the consistency required for large-scale tree propagation.

FlexAir 2.0 configuration and application
At the centre of the FlexAIR 2.0 is a newly developed precision wire cutting system. Designed specifically for demanding substrates such as wood fibre and coco-peat, the system delivers clean, consistent cutting even when substrate composition and structure vary. In a forestry nursery environment, this controlled cutting reduces spillage, supports cleaner trays and cells, contributes to more stable line operation, reduces material losses across long production runs, and improves root development through increased airflow in the tray. Plant performance remains central to the system’s design. Higher air content within the Ellepots results in softer pots, supporting the development of a uniform, fibrous root system. In forestry production, this consistency at the propagation stage underpins the goal of producing uniform, field-ready young trees that establish reliably after planting.

Output capacity has been increased to meet the scale of modern forestry operations. Configured with up to 16 pipes for the standard Forestry grade Ø30mm x 100mm Ellepot, the FlexAIR 2.0 is capable of producing approximately 28,000 Ellepots per hour, depending on configuration and operating conditions. Importantly, this output is delivered with stability and repeatability, supporting extended operating hours and predictable daily output planning. A redesigned control and communication architecture enables this level of performance.

Precision, digitalisation and integration
Operator control has been refined through an upgraded touchscreen interface. The system provides a clear, centralised overview of the production line, with direct access to key settings. This level of visibility helps reduce operator intervention and supports consistent output across extended operating periods. FlexAIR 2.0 is Ellepot Live ready, allowing forestry nursery managers to monitor production performance in real time. Access to live data supports improved oversight across multiple lines or sites, helping managers track output, identify issues early, and make informed decisions during peak production periods. Designed as part of a complete forestry nursery production platform, FlexAIR 2.0 integrates with a wide range of upstream and downstream equipment, including seeding lines, sticking lines, irrigation units, and other inline systems. This allows the system to function as part of a continuous, integrated workflow rather than as a standalone machine.

FlexAIR 2.0 reflects Ellepot’s continued focus on precision, consistency, and practical engineering solutions tailored to the demands of forestry nursery production. The system is now available globally, with further information available through Ellepot’s regional representatives and website.
