Gazetted document and Forestry South Africa’s comments on the National Forests Amendment Bill.
Of major concern is that, despite the concerns we raised in our initial submission, the latest Bill still states that the State is the trustee of the nation’s forestry resources”. Although the Bill, in its preamble states, that the Bill relates to “woodlands” and “indigenous forests”, we feel that a clause needs to be added which specifically states that this Bill excludes any privately-owned commercial timber plantations or privately owned woodland or indigenous forests.
