The MTO Group produces a basket of diverse timber products which include poles, lumber, shelves, biomass-energy, and cross-laminated affordable modular housing. Our products are manufactured from timber which is harvested from our own internationally accredited plantations. Our vast operational footprint spans across three provinces and enables us to reach our customers nationwide.
MTO’s manufacturing and processing facilities include two softwood sawmills located in George and Longmore, two fully functional pole treatment plants with a Central Merchandising Depot (CMD) in Mpumalanga, and a Distribution Centre with a treating facility in Retreat, Cape Town.
We manufacture lumber for structural and non-structural applications.
MTO lumber is kiln dried according to the SABS specifications. The kiln drying process involves the drying of wood in a chamber where air circulation, relative humidity and temperature can be controlled to reduce the moisture content of wood to a target point and free of drying defects.
We offer preservative treated lumber in two classes, namely H2 which is intended for above ground and indoor applications, and H3 which is suitable for above ground and outdoor use. Poles are treated according to the specifications relevant to the application.
We are a proud member of: South African Wood Preservers Association (SAWPA) and our accreditation partners include African Certification & Testing (ACT) for poles and South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) for lumber.
Our value proposition is our quality – we go beyond meeting SANS standards as we believe our quality and attention to detail sets us apart.
