Please note that the implementation of the National Minimum Wage will become effective from 1 January 2019. In terms of forestry (and agricultural) workers, the applicable wage will be R18 per hour.
This represents a 9.7% increase on the current sectoral minimum wage of R16.25 per hour.
We have had a couple of our members contact me regarding the next increase in the minimum wage applicable to forestry and agricultural workers post 1 January 2019 – i.e. will it go up again on 1 March 2019 as per the sectoral determination.
To clarify the matter, please note the following:
- The NMW for forestry and agricultural workers will remain at R18 per hour until 31 December 2019.
- The NMW for forestry and agricultural workers w.e.f. 1 January 2020 will be determined by the NMW Commission.
