FSA provided inputs to the National Minimum Wage Commission to inform the National Minimum Wage to be set for 2022. We recommend a CPI + 1, motivated by the above CPI increases we as a sector had faced for a number of years. The National Minimum Wage (NMW) was published and has been set at R23.19 which constitutes a 6.9% increase (December’s CPI plus 1%). The new NMW is a real value increase of R1.50 per hour and will be implemented in on 1 March 2022.
