Driving Digital Transformation: NCT’S New Supplier App
BY DEEPAK MOHANLAL, NCT FORESTRY IT SERVICES MANAGER
In an era where technology is reshaping every industry, forestry is no exception. NCT Forestry has taken a bold step towards digital transformation with the launch of its new Supplier App and Web Portal, designed to streamline operations, strengthen compliance and enhance communication across its membership base.
A SECURE PLATFORM TO SUPPORT NCT’S LONG-TERM GROWTH
The NCT App was born from the need to provide members and suppliers with a secure, centralised platform to engage directly with the organisation. Initially developed using open-source tools, the project soon evolved into a fullyfledged enterprise-grade solution capable of supporting NCT’s long-term growth. By choosing to keep all development in house, NCT ensured that the App aligned closely with its operational priorities while building valuable internal capacity for future enhancements.
The result is a robust digital system that integrates seamlessly with NCT’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) and geographic information systems (GIS). Members, suppliers and transporters now have direct access to vital business information at their fingertips – from delivery schedules and order tracking, to payment details and supply contracts.
A ROLE IN CERTIFICATION AND COMPLIANCE
Beyond improving day-to-day operations, the NCT App plays a crucial role in supporting certification and international trade requirements. By enabling suppliers to capture geolocation points, draw compartment polygons, and submit geotagged images, the App provides a reliable digital record of timber origin. This ensures that every delivery can be traced back to sustainably managed land, directly supporting compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Although not yet integrated with certification bodies such as FSC or PEFC, the App has already positioned NCT as a leader in transparent, traceable forestry supply chains. It lays the groundwork for future integration with certification and reporting systems, further reinforcing NCT’s commitment to responsible forestry practices.
BENEFITS ACROSS THE SECTOR
For members and suppliers, the App simplifies processes that were once paper-heavy and time-consuming. Orders can be placed digitally, contracts are signed electronically, and delivery schedules are tracked in real time. This efficiency reduces administrative burdens and improves data accuracy.
Transporters also benefit from role-based customisation, enabling them to manage logistics across multiple suppliers with greater visibility and accountability. The improved flow of information reduces turnaround times, enhances planning and fosters stronger collaboration across the supply chain.
Perhaps one of the most encouraging outcomes has been the high rate of adoption. Despite initial concerns about uptake among members less familiar with digital tools, clear communication, training and support have resulted in strong engagement and positive feedback.
OVERCOMING THE CHALLENGES
Developing the App was not without obstacles. Integrating multiple systems, implementing strong data security, and managing scalability all presented significant hurdles. NCT tackled these through strategic choices: investing in an enterprise-grade infrastructure, committing to inhouse development, and applying rigorous security standards. Member support initiatives further ensured that the transition to digital was as smooth as possible.
LOOKING AHEAD
The launch of the NCT App is just the beginning. Future developments are already on the horizon, including a dedicated Track and Deliver module for transporters reducing truck turnaround times and ensuring delivery transactions are tamperproof, enhanced GIS tools expanding spatial analysis tools and integration with certification and sustainability reporting platforms. Plans also include expanded communication features like push notifications for fire warnings and market updates, AI-driven decision support and digital pest and disease tracking, highlighting the potential for forestry to embrace cutting-edge technology in pursuit of efficiency and resilience.
A STEP FORWARD FOR FORESTRY
NCT’s Supplier App represents more than a new piece of technology – it is a symbol of how the Forestry Sector is adapting to meet global challenges. By combining efficiency, transparency and compliance in a single digital tool, NCT is equipping its members with the resources they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
As forestry continues to navigate the demands of certification, sustainability and international trade, innovations like the NCT App will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Sector.
