Post: Developments at the FP&M SETA

Forestry South Africa
Forestry South Africa

After having been instrumental in setting up the erstwhile Forest Industries Education and Training Authority (FIETA) and having served on its Board since inception in 2000 and subsequently the FP&M SETA Board, I attended my last FP&M SETA Board meeting on 31 march this year.  This followed the dissolution of all SETA Boards on that date as their 5-year lifespans had come to an end. The lifespan of the SETA’s themselves has been extended to the end of march 2020, after which they will become permanent entities.

The CEOs and Chairs of all 21 SETAs are being assessed and only those who have not performed, are to be replaced.  Given that the FP&m was ranked by the DHET in the 2016/17 financial year as being the 3rd best performing SETA, it is pleasing to note that its Chair, mr Sipho Ngidi, has retained his position. Since ms Felleng Yende’s appointent as CEO, the SETA’s performance has continued to improve year on year and although we await confirmation that she will remain as CEO, we see know reason why this should not be the case.

In terms of the new SETA Board, FSA nominated Norman Dlamini, our Business  Development Director, to replace myself on the Board.  I am delighted to report that the DHET Minister, Minister Pandor, has now confirmed Norman’s appointment to the new FP&M SETA Board. Norman is an excellent choice and is well suited to ensure that the SETA continues to be well managed and that it serves the skills needs of the Industry to the full.  Should you need to contact Norman regarding SETA related issues, he can be contacted on the following:
