Novelquip pushes boundaries of precision silviculture

N ovelquip was established by the late Dr Jaap Steenkamp in 2009. The MPAT started as a novel concept and has become ubiquitous in the local and export markets. Novelquip equipment is running at all major forestry companies in South Africa, where it significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of planting operations while reducing environmental impacts with its minimum tillage philosophy.

Seamless Mangement system
In a world where precision is everything, Novelquip has stayed ahead of the curve by incorporating a machine management system with GPS guidance into the MPAT. This addition empowers forestry teams to engage in accurate and relevant compartment planning, operations, and reporting.

Manual marking, once a cumbersome and costly task, is now outdated. The machine management system was tested by several forestry contractors over three years. Using insights provided by customers, Novelquip relaunched the system in 2023. It is based on Finland’s Epec control system and offers a robust and reliable solution for forestry conditions.

Foresters can seamlessly access management data and a map of actual plant positions. It assists forestry contractors in producing accurate reports and invoices by integrating technology from the office to the field and back again in a user-friendly way.

The result? Work gets done smarter, faster, more efficiently and transparently than ever. Novelquip’s commitment to excellence doesn’t end with the MPAT. The company has recently expanded its product range to become one of the few equipment suppliers offering a complete basket of forestry equipment solutions.

PONSSE
One noteworthy addition is the partnership with Ponsse, the Finnish company renowned for its innovative harvesters and forwarders designed for the cut-to-length (CTL) method. These machines are efficient and environmentally friendly, aligning perfectly with the modern, sustainable logging practices the industry demands. Novelquip represents Ponsse in the Western and Eastern Cape regions under the support of the principal dealer, MTS Parts.

OMEF
Novelquip is a dealer for OMEF’s range of forestry and landscaping attachments. The extensive coverage from the Italian manufacturer includes tree shears, stump shears, grapple saws, brush cutters, mulchers, and pruners. These attachments are invaluable for various forestry, landscaping and agricultural applications, including managing slash and fuel loads for fire prevention, roadside maintenance, felling burnt trees, alien vegetation control, and even maintaining fruit trees.
