RGE-FABI THP team host a tree health symposium
The RGE-FABI Tree Health Programme (THP) is a collaborative venture between the global integrated resource group RGE International and FABI, University of Pretoria. Broadly, this programme, now in its sixth year, provides PhD-level education to young scientists through fundamental research on important plantation tree pathogens and pests. Amongst the numerous activities of the THP, the group holds an annual symposium where research results are shared. The 2024 symposium was held in Kernici on Monday 28 October. FABI’s Prof. Mike Wingfield, Prof. Irene Barnes and Prof. Brett Hurley, joined RGE student co-advisors Dr Marthin Tarigan, Dr Samuel Santos, Dr Srikumar Koda Kkadan; postdoctoral Fellows Dr Ariska van der Nest and Dr Nam Pham and students Mr Agni Saha, Mr Yosep Marpaung and Ms Nike Sinulingga in running the symposium and making presentations. These included a general overview of currently important pests and pathogens of Eucalyptus and Acacia as well as focused research reports on Elsinoe Scab and Shoot Malformation, Ceratocystis canker and wilt of Eucalyptus and Acacia, Ganoderma root rot and Eucalyptus leaf roller.
