The birth of two new iconic machines

The STIHL FS 160 and FS 280 are well-known machines whose robust performance made them popular with professionals needing reliable machines with outstanding cutting and clearing ability.

Now, STIHL has done the unthinkable – discontinued these two stalwarts. But don’t despair – STIHL has replaced these machines with two models that are better and more cost-effective: the FS 161 (1.5kW) and the FS 291 (2.0kW). Best of all – these newly-launched machines are available at the same price as the discontinued models.

Rudi Kruger, Sales Manager at STIHL SA, says, “They offer so much more at the same price. They are more economical to run and they also ensure less time wastage, resulting in a vital time and money saving for the business owner.”

Both models feature impressively-powerful engines with game-changing, fuel-efficient 2-Mix Technology. This means that both machines are cleaner burning and more fuel efficient, with high torque over a wide speed range.  The result is impressive – expect a fuel saving of between 10 – 20% compared to standard 2-stroke machines.

Both come standard with an AutoCut C46-2 mowing head, and as proved through independent studies by the University of Stellenbosch’s Forestry Department, using STIHL 2.7mm nylon line leads to major cost savings compared to using 3.5mm pre-cut nylon line. The research shows that up to 60% of pre-cut nylon is thrown away when replacing line on an aluminium head, resulting in costly wastage. When using the STIHL spooled nylon head system, out of 13m, a maximum of just 30cm of nylon is thrown away – a mere 3%.

Also important, especially for professionals when time means money, the AutoCut C46-2 head eliminates more frequent line changes as one spool takes 13m of line with an average usage of 1,5m per day. STIHL 2.7mm nylon also cuts faster, further increasing productivity.

An additional time saver is that both machines have larger 750ml fuel tanks so that operators stop less often to refuel.

Finally, these two machines offer streamlined convenience for operators, professionals and dealers alike, with spares now consolidated across seven models. Useful when in the field!

Why delay? Get the FS 161 and FS 291 for your teams today.
