Impact for Paraguay’s Forestry Sector
During the first week of June, FSC Latin America carried out a series of activities in Paraguay aimed at strengthening capacities, promoting responsible forest certification, and supporting the forestry sector in addressing emerging international market requirements.
As global markets increasingly demand higher levels of traceability, sustainability, and transparency, collaboration among public institutions, companies, and technical organizations is becoming essential to build trust, enhance competitiveness, and create new commercial opportunities for forest products.
Building capacity to meet emerging market requirements
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding between FSC and Paraguay’s National Forestry Institute (INFONA), a technical meeting was held to provide forestry stakeholders with tools and knowledge on forest certification, traceability, and access to international markets.
The event was opened by José Tagle, Acting Regional Director of FSC Latin America, and Cristina Goralewski Hempel, President of INFONA, who highlighted the importance of strengthening the competitiveness of Paraguay’s forestry sector through responsible practices aligned with evolving market expectations.
During the session, FSC Latin America specialists shared information on FSC certification, responsible forest management, chain of custody, and solutions to support compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). In addition, Esteban Carabelli, Director of FSC Argentina, presented the country’s experience and the benefits that certification has generated for companies, communities, and forests.
Bringing solutions closer to the productive sector
The agenda continued with a technical meeting organized by Paracel in Concepción, bringing together company representatives, forest producers, consultants, and other key actors from the forestry value chain.
During the exchange, FSC Latin America presented tools and resources related to FSC certification, FSC policies, remediation frameworks, and emerging EUDR requirements. The session provided an opportunity to address questions and share experiences on how certification can help strengthen traceability, sustainability, and the competitiveness of forestry operations.
The active participation of companies, producers, and consultants reflected the Paraguayan sector’s growing interest in preparing for an increasingly demanding commercial environment.
A joint effort for forests and people
The activities carried out throughout the week demonstrated the value of collaboration in strengthening responsible forest management. Through dialogue and knowledge sharing, FSC continues to build capacities that contribute to sector competitiveness, market access, and forest conservation.
